History
Originally, evening primrose grew only in North America, where various Native American tribes revered it as a valuable medicinal plant.
According to tradition, the Algonquin used crushed evening primrose seeds on skin eruptions. Other tribes used the plant in different ways.
When evening primrose seeds reached the Old World, the plant was first cultivated as an ornamental in botanical gardens, later escaped cultivation and eventually spread to Germany.
